On 27 January 2016 participants of the Growth of Women’s Business and Leadership Program visited the first Gender Museum in Ukraine.
The museum exhibition is devoted to the history of women’s and gender movement and efforts to get social equality. The first feminists, Charles Fourier in particular, considered a direct correlation between the level of civilization of a society and women’s position in it.
A separate room of the museum is dedicated to the Second World War. There are posters, modest utensil, and incompatible with war things – lace handkerchief and embroidered portrait of Lenin. “About a million women went to the front, - the director of the Museum Tetyana Isaeva told, - They were volunteers. Women were not only service staff, but also pilots, snipers, artillerists and signalers”.
The gender inequality, particularly in the labor market, activated discussion. “Ideal employees are women-accountants, especially divorced, with two children. They are unsecure and dependent on employers and even are afraid to ask about salary increase,” – stressed Alla Ivanova.
At the end of the excursion entrepreneurs agreed to continue cooperation with the Center of Gender Culture.
