On October 12, 2016 Dr. Ellis Huber held a seminar in Chuguyiv under the project supported by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Donetsk (Dnipro office). Dr. Huber is a reformer, author of several books and publications on health care reform, public health and doctors’ autonomy issues.
In his presentation Dr.Huber said that we should build our health care system locally, and involve not only doctors in this process, but also the entire community. Our new health care system should be simple and transparent.
From his rich experience in health care system reformation, German reformer urged communities not to wait idly for state aid. Public initiatives and desire to implement them are of the greatest importance in reforming process. Dr. Huber provided a curious example of a small Kinzigtal community (Germany).
"At first the audience was very skeptical. It was clear why. Dr. Huber lives in a wealthy country, and he would teach us how to change our medicine on our tiny budgets? But in the course of the seminar audience attitude changed due to his personal story. Ellis Huber described his life in his birthplace – small German village where he was the first person, who studied at the university. We had a great discussion! Now we plan to continue our cooperation at the community level,"- said Mykhailo Dovgopol, the project coordinator.
